Water
At the begining of the water saving project we descided to move away from automatic watering systems for the plants to hand watering with hoses fitted with trigger controlled spray heads or watering cans. Over the years this has given us not only significant water savings but also less plant wastage. This regular close inspection of the plants ensures watering is only carried out where needed and plant displays are betters controlled in terms of packing and display.

However, as part of our environmental improvement program we are always looking for new ideas to reduce our on site water usage. Our current major project is the new 1000m2 reed bed for the purification of all surface water produced on site . As you can see on the right the reeds in the three ponds of the reed bed are fully established and a thriving aquatic habitat has developed. The next step will be to sample the water leaving the reed beds to gauge where on site we will be able to reuse the water. It is hoped the water from the reed bed will be pumped into storage for use as irrigation across the site.
