Our guide on barbecues: the pros and cons, the comparisons between the leading brands

Traeger Grills

Founded in 1985, Traeger sell a range of wood pellet grills that offer an indirect heat meaning that the whole BBQ is one temperature rather than direct heat from charcoal that is hotter by the fire.

The grills use WiFire technology which allows you to control the grill from your phone even when you aren’t at home. You can use the Traeger app to find and schedule recipes to your grill, so you won’t be short of inspiration.

You can change the amount of smoke which smoulders the pellets more or less to give you your preferred amount of smoky taste.

It also uses ‘keep warm’ technology so that you don’t have to keep an eye on the remaining food whilst you’re eating.

It boasts a 6 in 1 functional grill:

Grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise and BBQ.

Their key features to owning a Traeger grill include taste, convenience, versatility, and performance.

It has the ability to solve both gas and charcoal issues by matching the flavour without risk of overcooking in areas which a charcoal grill can do or leaving out the smoky taste which a gas grill can do.

Its simplicity means that you don’t have to constantly watch over the food, with a meat probe and ability to set a time and temperature you can set it and leave it.

Kamado Joe

Kamado Joe was founded in 2009 and sells a range of ceramic charcoal grills. Their most popular grill is the Classic Joe II.

The grills feature a water-resistant Kontrol Tower Top Vent that maintains precise airflow for consistent temperatures.

They also include a 2-tier Divide & Conquer® Flexible Cooking System with a temperature gauge on the top of the barbecue

The Air Lift Hinge makes opening and closing your grill a breeze and significantly reduces dome weight.

This BBQ is a great option if you want a smoky charcoal flavour, and to grill a mix of foods at once to infuse all flavours. It is also striking with its large red dome and offers a range of different sizes to suit the space of your garden.

Napoleon Grills

Napoleon grills offer a range of gas, charcoal, and electric grills with up to 9 Burners.

Its gas grills feature a smoker so that you can get the advantages of a charcoal or wood pellet grill by using gas rather than electric. They sell a range of flavoured wood chips so that you can add extra flavour when smoking the food.

With infrared SIZZLE ZONE™ Burner, rear infrared rotisserie burner, RGB spectrum control knobs, 9.5mm Iconic WAVE™ cooking grids, wood chips smoker tray, interior grill lights, Napoleon grills have a great range of features and variations to suit your needs.

They have a range of recipes and advice on their website making it easy for Napoleon barbecue owners to use their grill to the full use.
