The most important thing about food is how you put it together. When it comes to Christmas, the pressure is on. People patiently sitting at the dining table waiting to judge every element of your roast dinner. Whilst we can't quite help with the cooking, we can help by making sure that you pick some amazing flavours, drinks, and fresh meat that compliment each other leaving everyone happy this Christmas.

This Christmas, if you can, support local butchers and businesses when buying your food and turkey. We have a fantastic range of high quality foods and incredible flavours that will take your meals to the next level.

Start with the meat

  • It has to be the Walters Turkeys Turkey from our Sedum Butchers - Walters' farm is in Reading, making this meat local and known to us. Knowing where your meat comes from is so important, especially when we buy so much of it as a nation over the festive period.

  • We handmake all of our pigs in blankets in our Sedum Butchers with quality local pork, you can buy them fresh or freeze.

Vegetables don't have to be boring

  • We suggest going for sprouts, parsnips, shallots, carrots, and cauliflower to bring a delicious combination of sweet and nutty flavours to your plate.
  • Our top tip for perfect sprouts: peel the outside leaves off, boil them until soft, then butter and pepper the sprouts and mix in the pan.
  • For the carrots, parsnips, and shallots, put them all in a dish together with a little oil and roast them until soft, you will get a fantastic flavour when they're put in together.
  • Boil your potatoes first to make them nice and soft and heat up oil in the oven on a baking tray. Then transfer the potatoes to the tray and mix them around coating them in the oil. When roasting, the oil will make the potatoes crisp up on the outside whilst staying fluffy on the inside.

It's all about the extras

  • Gravy and stuffing can really bring the dish together, make sure you buy a high quality flavoursome stock and stuffing. We recommend the Potts' turkey stock which you can purchase in our farm shop.

  • We sell high quality made-in-house stuffing in our Butchers that can be frozen or used fresh. If you prefer a packet mix, the 'A Jolly Fine Stuffing' in Gormet sage and red onion, would be the perfect choice to compliment a turkey roast. If you're looking for something a little different, the Shropshire Spice Co offer a great range of flavoured stuffing mixes, including: Cider apple and English sage, Cranberry, orange and roast chestnut, plum and ginger, roasted chestnut and Wild sage and roast onion.

To top it off

  • Yorkshire puddings...I think most of us can agree that Yorkshire puddings are key in making Christmas special.

  • You can find good quality flour and local eggs in our Farm Shop to make your own.

  • If you're strapped for time or don't fancy making them, we have frozen Yorkshire's made by Field Fare which you can easily take from the freezer when you're ready and cook them.

  • A favourite recipe that never fails is the BBC good food recipe, with 70g of flour, 100ml of milk and 2 eggs, you can't go wrong!

It wouldn't be Christmas without dessert

  • We have a great range of foods that taste great after a big savoury Christmas dinner, including our range of quality Christmas puddings, enjoy with cream or custard.

  • If you are looking for something a little lighter, choose our popular tiramisu-flavoured panettone. Just cut a slice, warm it in the microwave for 10 seconds and drizzle with fresh double cream for a taste of indulgence.

  • For a savoury option after dinner, we have a fantastic range of delicious cheeses and crackers which you can find in our cheese deli. Just ask our team for advice when choosing. We recommend the Godminster truffle cheese for truffle lovers and our Sedum mature cheddar with the Peter's Yard crackers.

Wine and Christmas drinks

  • Choose from our selection of mulled wine with different flavours to give you something to remember this Christmas. Our Three Mills gingerbread mulled wine and Hitzkopf toffee apple mulled wine, and the Belvoir mulled winter cordial are ones to try this winter!

  • We recommend pairing your turkey dinner with a chardonnay, or our sparkling English rose-infused kombucha. Come in-store to see our selection of wines, beers, and ciders, just ask our team for advice.
